Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS)

BIS was formed in May 2009 and has taken over all of the former responsibilities of BERR, formerly the Department of Trade and Industry including sponsorship of Innovation & Research Focus.

BIS's aim is to increase the UKs competitiveness and scientific excellence in order to generate higher levels of sustainable growth and productivity in a modern economy. The DTIs Construction Sector Unit (CSU) leads for Government on construction issues, in liaison with colleagues across Whitehall, to make a stronger case for the industry, at home, in Europe and internationally. Through its successful research and innovation programme, it supports R&I as a vital key to realise maximum value for construction clients, end users and stakeholders, and in exceeding expectations through the consistent delivery of world-class products and services.
