Innovation in concrete cladding at the Scottish Parliament Building, Edinburgh |
 |
Far from being pure ‘blue-skies’ thinking, the majority of research in concrete materials and structures being carried out by UK universities is industry-based and needs-driven. This was the conclusion of the previous Concrete Communications Conference, held in 2007 at the University of Sheffield. With the present challenges faced by industry, including the need to develop sustainable construction solutions, it is imperative that the well established links between academia and industry are strengthened and that appropriate research & innovation continues to be supported.
In addition to reporting on the most recent developments and advances in concrete, the 2008 Conference will provide a forum for disseminating and sharing research findings, exchange of ideas and practical experiences, whilst debating how to further enhance teaching and research on concrete.
The programme will include sessions on Sustainable Development, Structural Design, Modern Materials, Performance, and Construction. Each session will start with keynote presentations by leading authorities from academia & industry followed by an interesting programme of papers being put together by the organising committee.
Academics, researchers and PhD students from UK universities, as well as practising engineers from the construction industry and experts from the cement and concrete industries, are invited to attend.
The Conference is supported by the Institution of Structural Engineers.
